What Does A Muskie Look Like?

The answer to this challenging question is now available to local residents, thanks to a new bookmark just released by the Friends of the Spanish River.

Since 1995, the ‘Friends’ and the Espanola Branch of the Ministry of Natural Resources have been partners in an ambitious undertaking to restock the lower Spanish River with the Mighty Muskie. Over 7000 Muskellunge fingerlings and yearlings have been introduced into the lower Spanish River to re-establish this ‘King’ sportfish to its rightful place.

Although more work is needed to complete the restocking of the Muskie, it seems to have worked. Fishermen are starting to catch young Muskies on the lower Spanish River. The Northern Pike and the Muskellunge are very similar in size and appearance, hence the need for the ‘Friends’ new bookmark, "What does a Muskie look like?"

The ‘Friends’ new bookmarks are presently available at your local public library in Espanola, Webbwood, Massey and Spanish, Ontario, as well as the Espanola Branch of the MNR at 148 Fleming Street, Espanola. Oh, and they’re free for the asking.

Created by Direction Services of Massey, Ontario and printed by O.J. Graphix of Espanola, the "What does a Muskie look like?" bookmark is another Northern Ontario product!
